Conference Overview

We hope you plan to join us as we continue to tailor the agenda to address new treatment approaches, new technology and continue to develop a BC Pediatric Diabetes Network with the objective of standardizing pediatric diabetes care across the province.

We understand that various funders/BC health authorities are no longer supporting travel as much as they have in the past which may make attendance at this in-person conference challenging for those of your residing far from Vancouver. In order to improve access to our event, we will be providing additional travel grants and more information will be available when registration opens.

Meet our 2024 Keynote Speaker:

Dr. John Pemberton, Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Dietitian; Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Foundation Trust, UK

Presentation: ISPAD 2022 Exercise Guidelines: From Recommendations to Heuristics, Using Science to Create Art

Meet John, a paediatric diabetes dietitian based in Birmingham, England, who personally lives with type 1 diabetes. His mission is centered on empowering children and adolescents living with diabetes to confidently manage their health. John is a pioneer in utilising advanced technologies like Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM), Automated Insulin Delivery (AID), and coding to reinforce the principles of a balanced lifestyle. He advocates for habits such as eating three nutritious meals daily, participating in an hour of physical activity, and the novel strategy of using activity after meals to lower hyperglycaemia (his main contribution as co-author of the ISPAD 2022 Exercise Guidelines). Crucially, after his son was diagnosed with type 1 autoantibodies, John created an educational programme specifically for his family, underlining his dedication to enhancing lives by creating art from science. Discover more about his journey and initiatives at www.theglucoseneverlies.com.

We look forward to having you join us and celebrate reconnecting with one another in-person.
