Our Vision

The BC Diabetes Research Network is a leader and partner in BC for discovery research and translation that will improve health outcomes for people living with and at risk for all types of diabetes.

 Our Mission

The BC Diabetes Research Network is a network of diabetes research experts who provide evidence-based information to the public, governments and community organizations and connect and support researchers, clinicians and trainees to enhance their work. The network is focused on building a collaborative culture among people who want to dramatically decrease the impact of diabetes.

What is the BC Diabetes Research Network?

The BC Diabetes Research Network is a province-wide network for diabetes researchers to connect and collaborate. Currently, we are focusing on four areas of research strength:

What we do

1 DISCOVER innovate & accelerate the discovery of new diabetes therapies.

2 TREAT improve & enhance clinical diabetes care.

3 TRAIN inspire & mentor the next generation of diabetes researchers.

4 PREVENT predict & minimize health risks in future generations and stabilize current population.

5 COMMUNICATE connect &  share with the public the diabetes research being performed across British Columbia.

6 PARTNER translate knowledge by working with non-government organizations, industry and other diabetes research groups.

Where we are

British Columbia is home to a diverse research community that is passionate about improving the lives of those living with diabetes. Our efforts cross multiple academic institutions, hospital-based research institutes and community organizations.

Our members come from:

  • University of British Columbia (Vancouver BC)
  • University of British Columbia Okanagan (Kelowna BC)
  • Simon Fraser University (Burnaby BC)
  • University of Victoria (Victoria BC)
  • University of Northern British Columbia (Prince George BC)

In addition to the academic campuses the health research field is diverse. Research is conducted in institutes across the provincial health authorities:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute
  • BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute
  • Providence Health Care Research Institute
  • Fraser Health Authority
